Dunedin, Florida

Dunedin is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The name comes from Dùn Èideann, the Scottish Gaelic name for Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. The population was 36,632 at the 2010 census. Dunedin is home to several beaches, including Dunedin Causeway, Honeymoon Island, and Caladesi Island State Park. Dunedin is located in west-central Pinellas County on the northern shore of St. Joseph Sound, just south of the Gulf of Mexico. It is 13mi northwest of Clearwater, 20mi northwest of St. Petersburg, and 31mi southeast of Tampa. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 28.2sqkm, of which 26.4sqkm is land and 1.8sqkm, or 6.37%, is water. The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Dunedin has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated as “Cfa” on climate maps.
